Choices for Youth is a dynamic, progressive organization that empowers homeless and at-risk youth with innovative options and tools to move from street-life to more stable, healthy living situations.

Currently, Centralized Employment Support Program (CESP) at Choices for Youth is looking for a Employment Support Worker to fulfil a full time permanent position.

CESP utilizes an Employment First Framework in supporting at- risk and homeless youth between the ages of 16-29. Employment Support Worker will work in collaboration with Program Coordinator/Team Lead and Support Workers to provide direct support to youth who face barriers finding and maintaining employment. Employment Support Worker will assist young people with attaining the skills needed for employment: soft skills development, essential workplace skills, and education etc.

The Employment Support Worker is responsible for providing career development, facilitation and employment counseling to CESP clients, as well as providing information on available CESP education and training opportunities. The Employment Support Worker assists clients to achieve their education and employment goals by empowering them with the resource tools and information required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Preference will be given to candidates with minimum 2 years’ experience in career counselling, job development or employment based facilitation.
  • Experience with the construction industry would be an asset
  • Diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary program.
  • Extensive knowledge of youth related issues and resources.
  • Knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador labor standards, current local labor market, workplace ethic and standards, job search and interview techniques and current community resources.
  • Commitment to the philosophy of youth empowerment is a requirement.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Certificate of Conduct
  • Driver’s License Required

Work Hours

This position will require a flexible approach to hours of work and a willingness to be creative in motivating/inspiring youth and other members of the community. Access to a vehicle is also required.

Compensation

The salary for this position is $42,619 – $47,008 annually.  Choices for Youth offers a competitive compensation package, including: a health and dental program, employer-matched RRSP and four weeks’ vacation to qualifying employees.
