Shelter Outreach Worker


Choices for Youth (CFY) is seeking a Shelter Outreach Worker to join our team of committed individuals who collectively work to give youth healthy life choices to realize their potential. We do so by being a dynamic, progressive organization that empowers homeless and at-risk youth with innovative options and tools to move from street-life to more stable, healthy living situations.

The Shelter Outreach Worker will be based in a residential setting at Choices Shelter. Choices Shelter at Choices for Youth provides emergency, short-term housing for male-identified and gender non-conforming youth between 16 and 29 years of age. As a Shelter Outreach Worker you will work as part of a staff team to ensure quality service to the young men that use the shelter services. This will include intake/assessments, providing supportive and crisis counselling, community liaising, advocacy and referrals to programs and services as required. Shelter Outreach Workers are also responsible for daily shelter operations including cleaning, meal preparation and other general duties.

Ideal candidates should have a degree in a social science field and/or an accredited diploma program. Experience in residential and/or community and CPI certificates would be considered assets. Valid Standard First Aid and ASIST are a requirement of employment. Other combinations of training and experience may be considered.

The successful applicant must be able to provide a Certificate of Conduct. 

Work Hours

This is a full time permanent position (80 hours biweekly) and shift work is required, which may include weekends, late evenings, nights.


The salary for this position will be $42,615.04 - $47,027.97 annually. Choices offers a competitive compensation package, including: a health and dental program, employer-matched RRSP and four weeks’ vacation to qualifying employees.
