Currently, Choices for Youth is looking for a highly motivated Financial Controller to become part of our Finance team. 

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, the Financial Controller will be responsible for the integrity of the financial reporting in support of CFY’s social enterprise operations and growth.

Accounting and Reporting

  • Perform financial analysis to determine feasibility and future venture viability of new and current social enterprises

  • Perform financial cash flow forecasting and accounts receivables management associated with CFY’s social enterprises

  • Ensure that timely and complete periodic financial statements and budget analysis are issued

  • Assist in completion of monthly Financial Statement package for management review and quarterly for board review

  • Ensure collections, A/R reporting and payments are managed in a timely manner

  • Complete month end adjusting entries and ensuring all accounting requirements for social enterprise operations are met on time

  • Prepare detailed Job Costs sheets and Work in Progress Summary Reports for Project Managers

  • Participate in the budgeting process and ensuring adherence to budget throughout the fiscal cycle

  • Preparation of quarterly financial claim reports for ACOA and  various funders

  • Support the Director of Finance & Administration in the completion of year-end accounting tasks - ensuring all reconciliations are complete and preparation of working papers for external auditors

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of policies, procedures and financial controls 

  • Other duties as required to ensure the successful operation of the Finance Department

Payroll and Benefits

  • Reviewing time sheets and leave balances

  • Act as a liaison to employees and external agencies on payroll related inquiries

  • Other duties as required

     

    Qualifications

  • A degree in business commerce or administration with a concentration in accounting. Some equivalent experience or education may be considered.

  • 3+ years’ experience in accounting with demonstrated experience preparing financial statements, non-profit experience would be a definite asset.

  • A CPA designation or enrollment in the program is considered an asset.

  • Extensive experience in Simply Accounting (Sage50).

  • A strong sense of urgency coupled with a positive can-do attitude.

  • Have a passion to help us achieve our core values.

  • Must have a satisfactory code of conduct and be bondable.

     

    Work Hours

The position will be 35 hours per week from Monday to Friday. Some flexibility in work hours will be required to accommodate higher work volumes and organizational requirements.

Compensation

The salary (scale) for this position will be $51,669 - $57,657 annually. Choices offers a competitive compensation package, including: a health and dental program, employer-matched RRSP and four weeks vacation to qualifying employees.
