Currently, Choices for Youth is looking for a highly motivated Financial Controller to become part of our Employment, Education, and Social Enterprise team.


CFY is seeking a Financial Controller to join our Employment, Education and Social Enterprise (EESE) team for a one-year contract. Reporting to the Manager of EESE, the Financial Controller will be responsible for supporting the advancement of accounting functions and effectiveness of our social enterprises and department as we continue to grow. We are seeking an individual to take on new challenges in a setting that is poised for growth and opportunity.


Duties & Responsibilities


Working collaboratively with our team, the successful applicant will be responsible for managing the accounting functions of the department and our group of social enterprises. You will support departmental leadership in overseeing all aspects of our accounting operational functions and with your technical financial expertise, help drive improved performance, reporting and business planning for the department. This candidate will also play a key role in developing and implementing financial procedures to improve and maintain the financial health of the social enterprises and department along with acting as liaison with key financial partners.


This individual will also be responsible for enforcing and managing financial controls and accounting procedures, ensuring full transparency over the financial performance of the department and group of social enterprises, provide advice on how to reduce costs, effectively and clearly communicate potential risks in a timely manner, coordinate and produce all financial related documentation. Development of audit information may also be required along with proposing action plans to ensure that annual financial objectives are attained, taking a leadership role in financial decision-making that affects our department, and will collaborate with departmental leadership and CFY’s Finance Department on plans for corporate growth and evolution, provide strategic financial input to senior management while keenly overseeing the overall accounting process.


Additionally, duties may include –


  • Performing financial cash flow forecasting and accounts receivables management associated with CFY’s social enterprises

· Support departmental operations through month end including journal entries, quarterly reporting packages, account reconciliations, financial statements, budget analysis, KPI tracking, and operating report analysis and preparation.

  • Ensure collections, A/R reporting and payments are managed in a timely manner

  • Complete month end adjusting entries and ensuring all accounting requirements for social enterprise operations are met on time

  • Preparing detailed Job Costs sheets and Work in Progress Summary Reports for Project Managers

  • Participate in the budgeting process and ensuring adherence to budget throughout the fiscal cycle

· Preparation of quarterly financial claim reports for various funders and programs

  • Supporting the Director of Finance in the completion of year-end accounting tasks - ensuring all reconciliations are complete and preparation of working papers for external auditors

  • Other duties as required to ensure the successful operation of the Department



Qualifications

· A degree in business commerce or administration with a concentration in accounting. Some equivalent experience or education may be considered.

  • 3+ years’ experience in accounting with demonstrated experience preparing financial statements, non-profit experience would be a definite asset.

  • A CPA designation or enrollment in the program is considered an asset.

  • Extensive experience in Simply Accounting (Sage50).

  • A strong sense of continuous improvement and a positive can-do attitude.

  • Have a passion to help us achieve our core values.

  • Must have a satisfactory code of conduct and be bondable.


Work Hours


The position will be 20 hours per week. Flexible work schedules available.

Compensation


The hourly salary for this position will be $28.39.
