Job Posting: Impact Property and Construction - Youth Training Supervisor

Choices for Youth Inc. (CFY) is a professional service, a youth-focused, non-profit, charitable organization that creates spaces and conversations and operates programs and social enterprises to help vulnerable youth secure stable housing, employment, and education while improving health and family stability. With a focus on prevention, intervention, and support, we help youth and their families break cycles of poverty and homelessness and transition to healthy, stable, and independent lives.

 

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Property Maintenance Professional with a passion for mentoring and training youth to join our team until June 6, 2025, with the possibility of extension. This unique role combines hands-on property maintenance and construction with the opportunity to inspire and guide young people as they develop their skills in construction and property management.

 

Reporting to the Maintenance Lead, the Youth Training Supervisor – Property and Construction Projects role will be responsible for coordinating and being hands-on with our residential construction projects and property maintenance tasks, teaching Trainees best practices in a hands-on skilled training program. The position includes providing experiential learning opportunities, mentorship, and guidance to youth participants, while working collaboratively with the social enterprise and employment support team to ensure projects are completed to a high standard and align with our mission of fostering skill development and growth.

 

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Perform general property maintenance, repairs, and renovations, including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, painting, and landscaping.

  • Collaborate with the team to maintain high standards of safety and functionality across properties.

  • Lead and supervise youth trainees, teaching practical construction and maintenance skills.

  • Provide mentorship, fostering a positive and supportive environment for youth participants.

  • Develop and implement hands-on training activities tailored to varying skill levels.

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and encourage best practices in property maintenance.

  • Monitor project progress and provide feedback to youth trainees to enhance their learning experience.

  • Perform regular inspections to ensure all tools and equipment are in good working order, maintaining proper inventory records.

  • Train youth participants in construction techniques, emphasizing industry best practices and safety protocols.

  • Foster a safe working environment by leading regular toolbox meetings and addressing potential hazards promptly.

  • Monitor work practices to identify and correct unsafe behaviors, ensuring accurate documentation of any incidents.

  • Develop and enforce safety procedures for the operation of all tools and equipment used in construction and maintenance tasks.

  • Provide and ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for all staff and youth participants, promoting adherence to safety standards.

  • Assists with demolition and debris disposal.

  • Always maintains good housekeeping to ensure a safe and non-cluttered worksite.

  • Works under time constraints to meet specific timelines.

  • Ensures attention to detail.

  • Follow protocol for construction and youth care as determined by company policies.

  • Any other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS


  • Proven experience in property maintenance, construction, or a related field.

  • Strong knowledge of construction practices, tools, and safety procedures.

  • Experience working with or mentoring youth in a professional or community setting.

  • Ability to teach and break down complex tasks into simple, learnable steps.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Patience, adaptability, and a passion for youth development.

  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

  • Certification in trades or safety (e.g., WHMIS, First Aid) is an asset.

COMPENSATION


The salary for this position is $26.00- $ 27.50 hourly. CFY offers a competitive compensation package, including: a health and dental program, employer-matched RRSP and four weeks’ vacation to qualifying employees.

 

WORK HOURS


Regular hours of work for this position are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday (35 hours per week). Flexibility in work hours will be required from time to time to accommodate higher work volumes and organizational requirements, including the occasional and emergent need to work evenings and weekends.
