Job Posting: Production Lead - The SHOP

Choices for Youth Inc. (CFY) is a professional service, youth-focused, non-profit, charitable organization that creates spaces and conversations, and operates programs and social enterprises to help vulnerable youth secure stable housing, employment, and education while improving health and family stability. With a focus on prevention, intervention, and support, we help youth and their families break cycles of poverty and homelessness and transition to healthy, stable, and independent lives. We are seeking to hire one (1) part-time, Production Lead position to support young people in The SHOP social enterprise. This is a contractual position until June 6, 2025.


Located at our Education, Employment & Social Enterprise hub, The SHOP is a social enterprise where diversity is celebrated. As a program we strive to offer a fun, safe, inclusive workspace.


Our facility is a busy, multi-faceted space with the goal of combining creativity with professional skills training. Operating from a strength- based lens, we design and produce saleable products for our retail partners. Reporting to the Manager of Education, Employment and Social Enterprise, the Production Lead will help ensure consistent production. The SHOP is dedicated to ensuring the work experience of our trainees is as successful as possible- guiding each person through their workplans, helping to set and achieve goals, and confidently enter the workforce.

 

Becoming the Production Lead at a Choices for Youth Social Enterprise means learning something new every day. We offer a dynamic workspace providing the opportunity to learn rewarding skills supporting the work experience of at-risk youth. The ideal candidate should be confident in taking on a leadership role, with strong team management skills and exceptional communication abilities.

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Reporting to the Manager of Education, Employment and Social Enterprise, the Production Lead for will be responsible for the continued growth and operational build out of The Shop. Combining creativity with professional skills, and always leading from a strengths-based lens, Production Lead activities include but are not limited to:

  • Prioritization of safe, transparent, and fair business relationships with community partners, customers, and vendors

  • Working with the Manager of EESE and CFY’s Finance Team to ensure financial goals and budgets are being set and met

  • Oversight of operations including: Small- Medium sized production contracts, Textile production & services (upcycled products, vinyl printing, rag cutting), The Hub trainee cleaner position, Screen printing service

 

The Production Lead will be responsible for the oversight of the operational build out of The Shop’s newest business line, a full-service screen-printing operation. This will involve:

 

  • Contracting the screen printer trainer

  • Working with the marketing lead to co-design marketing plan

  • Setting first-year targets

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Design and delegation of trainee project teams to suit daily business operations ensuring work is completed on time and on budget.

  • Working with the Employment Support Team to ensure The SHOP follows organizational best practices in training youth, while providing a safe and high-quality learning experience for trainees.

  • Working directly with designated ESW to ensure trainee outcomes and goals are being met.

  • Overseeing trainees helping them connect with appropriate supports as needed.

  • Attend case consult meetings.

  • Working with and learning hands on production taught by professional trainers (sewing basics, light woodworking, leatherwork, silk screening, etc.)

  • Collaborating with the Training & Education Team to update and redesign the training components of the Arts & Design pre-employment program, while also assisting with hands-on training sessions related to The SHOP.

  • Completion of annual edit of The Trainee Policy and Procedure Manual

  • Maintaining and scheduling of additional trainings for trainees working in The Shop as necessary and where relevant (First Aid, etc.)

  • Monitoring and management of The Shop budget

  • Quarterly reporting to the Manager of EESE

  • Quarterly work planning and strategic planning

  • Attendance of EESE Leadership meetings

  • Other duties as required to meet the social enterprise’s strategic goals.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE


  • Post secondary education in child and youth care Business, Education or related another field. Combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Professional experience working or volunteering with at risk/vulnerable young people.

  • Strong leadership skills; comfortable making decisions and instructing; positive and upbeat personality.

  • Proven excellency in time management

  • Support experience in an employment-based setting, considered an asset.

  • First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, ASIST training required (can be provided)

  • A satisfactory certificate of conduct and vulnerable sector check is required and must be bondable.

  • Active drivers’ license and access to a vehicle is considered an asset.

 

WORK HOURS


The position will work approx. 20 hours per week on 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday with additional time required as needed to meet strategic goals.
