MARKETING OFFICER (one-year contract)


Choices for Youth (CFY) is a dynamic, progressive organization that empowers homeless and at-risk youth with innovative options and tools to move from street-life to more stable, healthy living situations. The Education, Employment and Social Enterprise team at CFY is currently recruiting for a Marketing Officer (one-year contract) to support these efforts.

Whether young people are completing energy-retrofits with Impact Construction, manufacturing textile products at The Shop, or selling gently used clothing at Neighbourhood, they are each developing employable and transferable skills in a supportive workplace. These opportunities help at-risk youth and emerging adults take steps towards ending their need for income support.


At CFY, we are harnessing this work to drive economic development and improve social outcomes for youth across the province. Our work in this space extends beyond being practitioners and into building a vibrant network of experts in social innovation, labour market attachment, community development, and business success.


The Marketing Officer will operate out of the Social Enterprise and Employment Centre located on Ropewalk Lane and report directly to the Manager of Education, Employment, and Social Enterprise. This integral role will assist in shaping the content, communications, and social media engagement strategy for the social enterprises operating within CFY. The ideal candidate for this role will be self-driven, able to work independently, inquisitive, and someone who takes pride in their abilities to organize and execute on ideas. Our work in this space is building a vibrant network of experts in social innovation, labour market attachment, community development, and business success.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordination of the social media and marketing strategy for each of the Social Enterprises and training programs. Manages social media, creates content, monitors strategic use, and develops existing and new communication channels in order to build a network.

  • Provides strategic communications advice, planning and tools to support business goals, engage stakeholders, and facilitate Departmental and Organizational alignment with policies and priorities.

  • Coordinating assets required to implement the social media and marketing strategy for the social enterprises.

  • Carries out graphic design and illustration work in support of online, print and digital projects to reinforce brands. Alternatively, oversees contracting of design and illustration work.

  • Plans and manages departmental events and trainee events and workshops to enhance knowledge translation, trainee experience, and enhance the departmental culture.

  • Support monthly, quarterly and annual metrics tracking, benchmarking, analysis and reporting on marketing and social media initiatives.

  • Ongoing research to develop an in-depth knowledge of social enterprise and how operationally it differs from traditional business environments.

  • General copywriting.

  • All other duties as assigned by the Manager of Education, Employment, and Social Enterprise.


Qualifications and Experience

  • University or college education in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing and/or Journalism

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in the Marketing and Communications field

  • Strong familiarity with digital and social media and industry trends

  • Experience with social media marketing and content marketing

  • Customer service experience

  • Strong proficiency and knowledge of design platforms

  • Experience with reporting and analytic tools

  • Event planning experience


Work Hours

This position will work 35 hours per week and flexibility in work hours will be required including evening and weekend work.


Compensation

The salary for this position is $40,586.00. Choices for Youth offers a competitive compensation package, including a health and dental program, employer-matched RRSP and four weeks’ vacation to qualifying employees.
