RESEARCH & DATA OFFICER


Choices for Youth (CFY) is a professional services, youth-focused, non-profit, charitable organization that creates spaces and conversations, and operates programs and social enterprises to help vulnerable youth secure stable housing, employment, and education while improving health and family stability. With a focus on prevention, intervention, and support, we help youth and their families break cycles of poverty and homelessness and transition to healthy, stable, and independent lives. CFY is seeking a Research & Data Officer to join our Strategic Initiatives Team. The team oversees policy, advocacy, community consultation, and research and evaluation initiatives for CFY. As a member of the Strategic Initiatives Team, the officer will play a key role in CFY’s many strategic projects through a variety of research initiatives that will involve a large degree of collaboration with other community agencies, government departments, and CFY staff across the organization. Part of this work will include supporting these stakeholders and identifying how data can be leveraged for evaluation, reporting and communication along with identifying best practices for data initiatives at Choices for Youth. This position will also involve independent work through data analysis, research, and writing. At CFY, we are working in close partnership with service providers, government and community leaders to drive innovative and sustainable responses to the challenges faced by youth across the province. Our work in this area involves knowledge mobilization, advocacy, strategic communications and marketing, creating spaces for collaboration, and leading social change efforts. Duties and Responsibilities

This scope and portfolio of work on the Strategic Initiatives Team is often emergent and in response to organizational needs and funding opportunities. The role of the Research and Data Officer requires the ability to quickly learn new topics, engage with subject matter experts and play a supporting role for staff across the organization.

  • Collaborate with CFY teams and leadership to streamline organizational data requests as it relates to specific initiatives

  • Support cross-departmental planning to help establish a cohesive system for secure data collection and storage.

  • Research best practices in data collection, impact reporting and program evaluation.

  • Support the development and implementation of research standards and research partnership frameworks for the organization.

  • Perform research as needed to support strategic initiatives.

  • Support programs, leadership and administrative teams with data requests as needed.

  • Other duties as required.

Work Hours

Regular hours of work for this position are 9:00am-5:00pm Monday to Friday (35 hours per week). Flexibility in work hours will be required to accommodate higher work volumes and organizational requirements, including occasional and emergent need to work evenings and weekends.

Hours worked in excess of regular hours will be accounted for in accordance with the overtime provisions of the Personnel, Policy and Procedure Manual of CFY and the Labour Standards Act NL. Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant field such as Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Social Work or Epidemiology, or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

  • A minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in programming, data systems management and/or qualitative & quantitative data collection.

  • Experience working with large data systems.

  • Experience handling sensitive and confidential information.

  • Experience analyzing provincial and national level data.

  • Experience writing funding reports.

  • Strong research and writing skills.

  • Strong time and task management skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal abilities.

  • Proficiency in the use of standard office computer hardware and software.

Assets

  • Experience working in social and/or human services sector.

  • Experience in Social Return on Investment frameworks.

  • Experience in collaborative processes and facilitation.

  • Experience building custom APIs.

Compensation

The salary for this position will be $45,281 to $50,323 annually. CFY offers a competitive compensation package, including: a health and dental program, employer-matched RRSP and four weeks’ vacation to qualifying employees.
