About Choices for Youth

Choices for Youth (CFY) has a mission to end youth homelessness and improve youth wellbeing in Newfoundland and Labrador through a focus on innovative and impactful programming and systems transformation. To help guide this mission, we rely on dedicated Board members who share our vision of a better future for young people in Newfoundland and Labrador.       

For over 35 years, CFY has been committed to innovation and meaningful change, all with the goal of transforming the lives of children, youth and families in our province. CFY delivers services across the key areas of housing, training and employment, mental health, food security, and family services. Together, CFY supports 1200 children, youth, and families annually. Additionally, following 10+ years of engagement, Choices for Youth recently launched a provincial model of care for young people, Becket Integrated Youth Services. This model is growing to four new regions across Newfoundland and Labrador, transforming youth access to care through integrated primary care, mental health, housing, employment, and community services.

About the Board of Directors

CFY has a governance Board of Directors, which provides strategic and governance oversight to the organization. As CFY’s work evolves, we are continuing to grow our Board of Directors to guide and support the work that guides and supports young people. If you’re passionate about social impact and ready to bring your skills to the table, we want to hear from you. If you are dedicated to making a difference in our community, this could be the opportunity for you! Specifically, we are looking for folks with expertise and experience in the following areas:

·         Government Relations

·         Impact Measurement and Evaluation

·         Those living in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and the surrounding areas

·         Individual(s) under the age of 30 with lived experience with homelessness and/or mental health challenges (preference for youth with past engagement with Choices for Youth, Becket, or other youth services)

What can you expect as a Board member?

·         Join a dynamic group of community leaders with vast expertise across business, finance, human resources, law, and social service delivery.

·         Contribute your expertise to help shape the strategy of one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s largest social service organizations.

·         Be a part of the Choices for Youth community where you will join staff, youth and community partners in shaping the future of vulnerable young people in our province.

·         Engage in discussions that advance our multi-faceted, innovative non-profit organization to meet the needs of children and youth in our province.

What are the commitments of Board members?

·         Engage regularly in Board discussions and share your perspective and expertise .

·         Attend four regular Board meetings a year, along with select special board meetings annually.

·         Engage in at least one Committee of the Board.

·         Attend Choices for Youth events, including the Annual General Meeting, and other public-facing engagements as required.
